Welcome!

I am Karla Rojas, thank you for visiting my e-Portfolio.

As a dedicated professional in Nutrition and Dietetics, my passion lies in promoting evidence-based nutritional practices and promoting a positive relationship with food.

Being bilingual in English and Spanish, I am committed to making nutrition education more accessible and inclusive, particularly in diverse communities such as Texas. Originally from Mexico City, I moved to Texas in September 2024, bringing my expertise and passion for nutrition to a new community.

This portfolio showcases my journey, accomplishments, and aspirations as I prepare for a dietetic internship program. Explore the sections below to learn more about my background, experiences, and professional interests.

About me

I pursued both my bachelor's and master's degrees in Nutrition under a traditional approach, believing that health was entirely an individual’s responsibility and closely tied to body size. In my early years of practice, I noticed that both my patients and I were obsessed with body size. I used to think that if they did not achieve their goals, it was due to a "lack of willpower." Today, I recognize that I was part of a system that promoted sacrifice, restriction, and suffering for those who followed my recommendations in an attempt to modify their bodies at any cost.

My perspective changed when I was diagnosed with an Eating Disorder (ED). Through my personal recovery and ongoing education, I transformed my approach to nutrition, shifting from restriction-based methods to a compassionate, patient-centered practice.

Today, my work is rooted in intuitive eating, body respect, and health-focused care. My patients are never judged by numbers on a scale. Instead, we focus on holistic health markers, prioritizing freedom, balance, and well-being over weight. I advocate for body diversity and respect, ensuring my patients feel safe, heard, and empowered in their health journey.
